Third party batteries for their line of digital cameras, has made Panasonic facing big issues and have released a new panasonic firmware that somewhat addresses this issue in a somewhat confrontational manner. Panasonic has made an officially statement for this issues.
Panasonic had updated the latest firmware for their digital cameras line that contains a major improvement that will capable to locks out any cameras to use “non genuine Panasonic” batteries. It is used for safety reason and for the convenient of the customers. This new update is going to be standard system for all new Panasonic digital cameras. From the release: ‘Panasonic Digital Still Cameras now include a technology that can identify a genuine Panasonic battery. Panasonic maintain to develop this technology system after they found out that some retailer had sold batteries for Panasonic digital cameras which is do not meet the safety standards Panasonic uses. Panasonic firmware used is to protect customer from inconveniences manner for using 3rd parties batteries (non genuine batteries). This entire situation is to ensure the customer got the best service and support from Panasonic.
